Prior to 1998, the amenities at St. James’ consisted of an outside G.P.Outlet for an urn connection to make tea and coffee etc. for the congregation. The bucket toilet system relied on the congregation for maintenance. It was not a satisfactory arrangement for older people attending weddings and funerals.
Menangle wardens approached Camden Parish Council and were generously given $15000 to purchase a portable Landcom office building at Narellan. After much voluntary labour from St. James’ was employed in the establishment of this building, it was opened in 1999 and given the name ‘The Stables’.
Council approval was given for 5 years. In the 5th year, further application was made by the wardens and full approval was obtained in January 2006.
Today ‘The Stables’ is a popular meeting place after the morning services where church members enjoy much fellowship over a cuppa and cake.
